My family comes from a long line of fishermen, hunters and crabbers. A couple of years ago, crabs were abundant and beautiful. As with most markets, the large quantity resulted in lower prices at the wholesale market. Our family could not resist bringing these high quality crabs directly to the buyer, which resulted in lower prices for the consumer and a fairer price for the watermen. And so it began, the family has been selling at local farmer markets in the Hampton Roads area for 5 years now. After a while, folks started asking for other fresh product. So we made connections with our oyster man, clam man, shrimp team, and so on.
We are now a small group of folks wanting to provide local, fresh caught products for our community. By supporting our local fisherman, we are creating jobs in our area and supporting our families. Our products are by the freshest and locally caught for our community.
About our crabs: Most of our crabbing team are from Knotts Island, NC (south of the Va. Line). They crab the Knotts Island Bay, Currituck Sound, Back Bay, and North Landing waters. We do occasionally have crabs from our Eastern Shore fisherman. Our crabs are blue crabs. Crabbers use crab pots to catch the crabs. The crabbing team does grade them and separate them by sizes. See sizes below.
About our clams/oysters: Our team works out of the Eastern Shore off of Cape Charles. The clams and oysters are caught year round in wild waters. Our clams and oysters are harvested daily and their taste is complimented by salty waters.
About our Shrimp: Our shrimp season normally starts in July. They do catch shrimp along the East Coast. Shrimp are separated by size. The size of the shrimp will be referred to as the # of shrimp in a pound. For example, a larger shrimp may be a 16/20 count compared to a smaller 25/30 count shrimp.
About our Scallops: Our scallops are deep sea scallops caught off the East Coast. Our scallops are dry and there are no chemicals or plumped up product.
About our Crabmeat : Most of our crabbers haul to a local picking plant. We pick up the product from there.
